Barry Couzner OAM re-elected unopposed as WPV President

World ParaVolley is pleased to announce that the appointed Scrutineers have verified the recent Board election results from the General Assembly on December 6, 2020.

Barry Couzner OAM (AUS) was re-elected unopposed for another four-year term as President, Louise Ashcroft (CAN) was re-elected as Medical Director and Dr Ivana Pavic (CRO) was elected as Development Director, replacing John Kessel who retired after eight years in the position.

Wheelchair Curling Mixed Doubles provisionally accepted into Paralympic Programme

The International Paralympic Committee has confirmed that Wheelchair Mixed Doubles curling has been provisionally approved as an additional event at the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

The announcement was made today following the decision being confirmed at a recent International Paralympic Committee Governing Board Meeting.

This confirmation means that two curling events — Mixed Team and Mixed Doubles — will now be part of the 2026 Paralympic Winter Programme.

However, the new curling discipline confirmation is subject to the following conditions:

IPC to provide EUR 1.8 million worth of grants to support members during pandemic

Historic initiative follows UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ theme 'Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 world'.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is to make EUR 1.8 million worth of grant funding available to its 200-plus member organisations during 2021 as part of efforts to provide additional support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

IWAS Wheelchair Fencing School to launch in 2021

The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing has revealed details of a new, worldwide training base for referees, classifiers and coaches at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Centre in Sao Paulo.

The IWAS Wheelchair Fencing School, which will launch in 2021, is the result of a collaboration between IWAS, the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) and Brazilian Fencing Federation (CBE).

China to host 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships

The World ParaVolley Board recently approved China as host of the 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships to be held at the World ParaVolley Hangzhou Development Centre tentatively 18th to 24th May 2022.

Some seven countries initially expressed interest in hosting the event. The Board voted unanimously to approve China, thus creating history in that it will be the first time that the combined men/women’s event will have been held in PVAO (Asia/Oceania).

World ParaVolley extends partnership with Senoh

World ParaVolley has extended its partnership with Japanese sports equipment company Senoh Corporation for the 2021-2024 period. World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner OAM and Senoh President Tetsuya Ozaki signed the contract remotely this month.

Senoh is known worldwide for its production of high-quality standing sitting volleyball and beach paravolley equipment and its track record in the Olympic Games. World ParaVolley signed a homologation agreement with Senoh back in 2016.
