First-ever Para Triathlon Mixed Relay World Championships to take place at Torremolinos Finals

World Triathlon is pleased to announce that the Championship Finals Torremolinos-Andalucía will host the first-ever World Triathlon Para Mixed Relay Championships on 20 October, after two years of the event being delivered at the World Triathlon Championship Finals as a test.

The Executive Board has also approved the award of a separate set of recognition medals to athletes with Intellectual Impairment competing in the Age-Group events at the 2024 World Triathlon Multisport Championships in Townsville, Australia, taking place on 15-25 August.

21 countries set to contest 2024 BNP Paribas Wheelchair Tennis World Team Cup in Turkiye

Teams from 21 countries are set to contest the 2024 BNP Paribas World Team Cup World Group when the ITF’s flagship wheelchair tennis team event returns to Antalya, Turkiye, for the fourth time from 7 to 12 May.

Titles will once again be decided in men’s, women’s, quad and junior events, with the junior event once again supported by ITF Wheelchair Tennis Programme Partner the Cruyff Foundation.

IBU Para Biathlon Development Forum to take place in Lenzerheide/SUI

The IBU Para Biathlon Development Forum 2024 will take place from 7 to 9 June at Lenzerheide, Switzerland, the host site for the IBU Biathlon World Championships 2024 and a growing centre for biathlon development activities.

Following the transfer of governance for Para Biathlon from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to the IBU in July 2022, the IBU became a full member of the IPC in September 2023.

Wimbledon to expand wheelchair draw sizes from 2024

The evolution of wheelchair tennis at the four Grand Slam tournaments is set to take another step forward this July after the All England Club announced that The 2024 Championships, will see the men’s and women’s wheelchair draws double in size.

Fields of eight men and eight women have contested wheelchair singles draws at Wimbledon since 2016, with men’s and women’s doubles draws of four partnerships having made their debuts at The Championships in 2005 and 2009, respectively.

Nancy named host of 2024 World ParaVolley Women’s Super 6

The World ParaVolley Super 6 will be back in 2024 with the women’s event relaunching the international federation’s premier six nations sitting volleyball tournament in Nancy, France from June 11-16.

The Women’s Super 6 will take place in Parc des Sports Vandoeuvre Nations in Nancy, about 350 kilometres away from French capital Paris, the host of the Paralympic Games.

A task group dedicated to increasing female participation in the sport on a global scale has been established, marking a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and diversity within the wheelchair rugby community. Wheelchair rugby, a dynamic and high-impact Paralympic sport, has long been beloved for its intensity, skill, and teamwork. However, women have historically been underrepresented in this electrifying game.

Ukrainian Para Triathletes join Japanese National team training camp

The Ukrainian Para triathlon team has joined the Japanese national team for a training camp in Okinawa, Japan, from February 25 to March 5. Faced with challenges in training due to the current situation in Ukraine, the athletes sought a training environment in Japan’s warm and welcoming atmosphere to prepare for upcoming competitions.

“I’m very pleased to be here because people are so kind and are building good relationships with us,” expressed Alisa Korpakchy, one of the Ukrainian Para triathletes. “It’s not usual for us these days, so it’s very pleasant for us.”
