2025 World Abilitysport Games Host City Announced

The 2025 World Abilitysport Games have been awarded to the city of Jakarta and the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia.

The Games to be held from 10-21 September 2025 (TBC) propose an extensive sport programme with athletics, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, Para fencing, table tennis, archery, CP football, sitting volley, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball, cycling (track & road) and shooting under discussion for inclusion. Sports popular in the region such as boccia, chess and sepak takraw as well as Para dance, beach ParaVolley and snooker will be explored for the programme.

The bid was awarded to the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia following an successful site visit conducted in late July.

World Abilitysport CEO, Charmaine Hooper said, ‘The site visit to Jakarta was extremely impressive and we were delighted to see the state of the art sports facilities being proposed for the Games. The majority of the sport venues as well as the Athlete’s Village are the same used for the 2018 Asian Para Games and are of the highest quality.’

The Hosting Agreement was signed between NPC Indonesia President, Senny Marbun and World Abilitysport President, Rudi van den Abbeele following a meeting at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

World Abilitysport President, Rudi van den Abbeele added, ‘I’d like to extend my thanks to NPC Indonesia for their hospitality during the team’s site visit and their clear commitment to hosting an unforgettable World Abilitysport Games.’

‘We have a long history of athletes that have honed their craft at our Games and as we close the Paris 2024 chapter, we look forward to providing a place for athletes looking to make their first steps onto the path towards LA 2028!’

Entry information will be circulated to Members in early 2025 with entries opening in the spring.
