China to host 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships

The World ParaVolley Board recently approved China as host of the 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships to be held at the World ParaVolley Hangzhou Development Centre tentatively 18th to 24th May 2022.

Some seven countries initially expressed interest in hosting the event. The Board voted unanimously to approve China, thus creating history in that it will be the first time that the combined men/women’s event will have been held in PVAO (Asia/Oceania).

Iran hosted the men’s Sitting Volleyball World Championships in 1998 and in 2022, China will become the 10th country to host this prestigious event. The other eight hosting countries have been the Netherlands, Slovenia, Norway, USA, Egypt, Germany, Hungary and Poland.

World ParaVolley President, Barry Couzner said: “Congratulations and appreciation to NPC China for their support of our most important event on the sitting volleyball calendar.”

The NPC China Secretary General, Zhao Sujing said: “We really appreciate that the board of World ParaVolley has granted NPC China the right to host the 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships. We will do our best to make sure that all athletes have a wonderful experience during their stay in China, and will cooperate closely with WPV to make these Championships successful as our commitment.”

President of ParaVolley Asia Oceania, Lu Cailiang said “We are very honoured to be hosting the 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Hangzhou, China in May 2022. We look forward to delivering a highly successful World Championships for the athletes as we have done so in previous years for other major World ParaVolley events. We will welcome the 32 teams with open arms and provide them with an experience they will never forget.”

Prior to the Sitting Volleyball World Championships in early 2022, World ParaVolley will offer the Final Qualifiers for the 32-team competition – for the last two places. The hosts for these two events, one for men and one for women, are still being sought and interested countries are invited to contact the World ParaVolley General Manager in the first instance.

The qualification process for the 32 teams to participate in the 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships will be announced soon.
